Why Finns Love Metal Music

Finland offers fertile ground to metal music.

It is not difficult to see why heavy metal is so popular in this country.  One popular band is Burning point  which offers various amazing types of Metal Music and is very famous in Finland. This is why Europe is the most popular country in heavy metal. Metal music is available on Finland’s commercial radio.

Finnish charts also show a strong presence of metal.

This is why this particular form of music is so loved by a nation that is often described as reserved and quiet.

These are just two possible explanations.

1. Processor for pent-up emotion

Finnish people can identify a pattern of behavior called emotional restraint.

They are clear and precise when they speak, but they struggle to express emotions.

The inward journey that their emotions take is . They feel whatever emotions, soft or hard, inside.

Any expression of emotion that is too loud or obvious is culturally insensitive.

2. A strong sense belonging

It is clear that metal music has a boundary. There is a line between them — one loves headbanging and the second disapproves.

It is this dividing line that creates exclusivity.

It creates an inner feeling of being ‘insiders,’ vs. ‘outsiders in the arena metal music.

Metal fans feel something different about non-metal-fans. They feel’special and exclusive’ because they know that not everyone likes the same type of music. This gives them a sense that they are part of a larger group.

To belong, is to be part.

The stronger the feeling of belonging is, the more exclusive that’something is’. Metal fans strongly feel they belong in a tight-knit club.

Bill Thompson is an Australian Professor who has spent a long time researching the emotional effects of violent music. He believes that the sense of belonging and exclusivity felt by death metal fans enhances the sense of identity.

This sense and identity is a major reason for the high popularity of metal music Finland.

The Finnish scene is huge in metal. Finland is Europe’s most metal country, with 70 bands per 100,000 residents. The country hosts many festivals of metal every year, especially in the summer. A record 43,000 metalheads attended Tuska Fest 2019, where 46 bands performed.
